Where are you from? how did you know it was time to make the move to los angeles?
I’m originally from Northern California - Sacramento. I moved down to Southern California for college, which meant leaving my parents’ house at 17. That pushed me out of my comfort zone early and gave me the freedom to play, to experiment, and to figure out who I wanted to be. LA has been home now for over 10 years.
is there anything specific you've learned about LA through the lens of a creative?
You kind of have to learn to love LA. It’s not instant. But once you do, there’s no other place like it.
What do you consider to be your major creative influences, across genres?
I’m drawn to anything that explores being human and messy. I like work that makes me feel deeply and connects us all, and I think that translates into the mix of charm and groundedness I bring to projects.
What are your thoughts on the current explosion of horror media in the mainstream? How do you feel about it and where do you think it's stemming from?
Love that there is a boom! I think people want to feel something big enough to take them out of the day-to-day. Horror can be a form of collective coping with the world around us.
What's your favorite scary story, across mediums?
So many good tropes! I like a good slasher or ritual/cult trope but the stories that probably stick with me the most are stories that deal with losing control - of the body, the mind, or even reality itself. That feeling of vulnerability terrifies me in the best way.
Is there a particular craft program that you've done that you feel you learned the most from?
I can’t single out just one. Every class, workshop, webinar, and intensive has given me tools I still use today. I love building a creative “toolbox” — pulling out what I need in the moment. I'm a sponge myself so I'm always open to learning new things and learning new ways to work out our craft - so feel free to share! :)
If you could have been a part of any existing horror movie, what would it be and who would you play? Why?
It would’ve been incredible to play the lead in A Quiet Place (Part 1). She’s a survivor who’s risking everything for her family, and I love how the film combines raw fear with deep love. That balance of vulnerability and strength is exactly the kind of role I’m drawn to.
What advice do you have for creatives that are just starting out?
Get plugged in. Take risks. Be a sponge. Be kind to everyone (including yourself). Spend time really figuring out who you are and why you feel drawn to create. Find a community, make things, fail, and keep going. And try not to waste time comparing yourself - your uniqueness is your superpower.
