ABF Season 4 - Meet the Cast: Amanda Lashmit
Longtime ABF cast member, Amanda Lashmit, continues to give us chills this season! You can catch her wreaking havoc alongside Jasmine De La Fuente in the ABF Season 4 Premiere story, Baby of the Game.
Amanda Lee Lashmit was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1979. She grew up in Marlborough, Massachusetts where she began acting in local community theaters as a teen. She graduated from Marlborough High Scool in 1997, and Bradford College in 2000. In her 30's she moved to southern California and began acting in area community theaters for several more years, even branching out to perform in several Shakespeare plays, before turning her attention to student films and podcasts.
Where are you from? how did you know it was time to make the move to los angeles?
I was born in Virginia, and moved to Massachusetts where I grew up and lived until I was in my early 30's. Then I moved to Southern California. Actually, I moved here for love, so....yeah. But I've been acting since I was a kid at the community level. I started shifting to more professional acting in 2019, and it was so much knowing as curiosity!
What do you consider to be your major creative influences, across genres?
Books (huge Stephen King fan), TV/movies, tabletop RPGs (Sci-fi and fantasy nerd for life). I also write short stories, which helps me imagine characters' history for the various roles I find myself playing.
What are your thoughts on the current explosion of horror media in the mainstream? How do you feel about it and where do you think it's stemming from?
I'm not really surprised that horror is popular. It can elicit anticipation and strong emotional reactions to the surprises found in horror. It seems a lot of people enjoy a good scare when there's no true danger to them.
What's your favorite scary story, across mediums?
There's this short story I read as a kid about these invisible hands that strangled people in their sleep somewhere in Europe. I've always enjoyed ghost stories.
Is there a particular craft program that you've done that you feel you learned the most from?
Due to the cost of courses and time commitments, I've only done basic beginner level courses on occasion. More of my experience has been working on short/student films. As I see it, experience is experience regardless of the path you use to gain it.
If you could have been a part of any existing horror movie, what would it be and who would you play? Why?
Tremors (1990) has always been my favorite scary movie. I'd want to play Heather Gummer because of her spark and the fact that she fights back. Also, there's comedy mixed with the horror, so that's a bonus.
What advice do you have for creatives that are just starting out?
Play around, experiment, and take chances to find ways to grow your craft. Classes and workshops are a good resource, too.
