I’m a Chicano storyteller, artist, and voice actor who draws on real life, family, and survival to shape my work. My focus is to turn pain, resilience, and truth into stories that leave a lasting impact.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in San Bernardino, California but have been living in Las Vegas, Nevada since January 2009.

what are some of the unique opportunities you've found that make you glad to create from where you are? Have you experienced any challenges creating from where you are?

A unique opportunity is one like being cast in this podcast because of the ability to use tech to our advantage by recording and submitting remotely. Also, being in Las Vegas, which isn’t exactly know for film can be a challenge and means having to be willing to travel for larger projects or networking opportunities, when necessary.

What do you consider to be your major creative influences, across genres?

Martin Scorsese, De Niro, Pacino, Denzel, and so many others in film, specifically. Comedians like Cheech Marin, Dave Chappelle, Bernie Mac, and George Carlin, to name a few.  Writers such as James Baldwin, Eldridge Cleaver, Mark Twain, and S.E. Hinton, as I tend lean more towards history, philosophy, and autobiographical works.

What are your thoughts on the current explosion of horror media in the mainstream? How do you feel about it and where do you think it's stemming from?

I think it is great and allows writers to step outside the copy/paste style we see across all mediums. Giving creative minds opportunities to write stories that leave an indelible mark on the readers, and with any luck, lead to movies that become classics in the minds of audiences.

What's your favorite scary story, across mediums?

Now, I believe it was a book first, but the movie IT has to be one of my favorites. Though, if I’m being honest, horror isn’t really my genre of choice.

Is there a particular craft program that you've done that you feel you learned the most from?

I went to audio production school and then spent years working with artists, authors, and professionals, while working on music, audio books, podcasts, and even dabbling in some booking management. I think the soft skills I learned and have sharpened will be a huge asset as I delve into this next chapter of my creative life. Also, I’d be remiss to say that working with acting coach Sean Critchfield of Las Vegas gave me some great tools and more importantly, the confidence in self to take chances.

What advice do you have for creatives that are just starting out?

It doesn’t always have to look or feel a certain way, and I say that as a creative who’s fear wore the mask of perfectionism for over a decade. In order to have a “puncher’s chance”, as they say in boxing, you just got to be willing to do the work when nobody is watching and then get in the ring when you see the opportunity.
